The Fest Begins…NOW!

It’s here. It starts today. It’s the 10th Annual deadCENTER Film Festival in Oklahoma City.

The festival kicks off at 7 p.m. this evening with Festival Check-In at TAP Architecture, a Street Party on Broadway, and the redCENTER Lounge Fundraiser. All this leads up to the first film of the festival, a free outdoor screening held right in the middle of Automobile Alley. Things will wrap up for the night at the Kick-Off After Party at Maker’s Cigar Lounge.

ESPN Films Birth of Big Air

Tonight’s film, The Birth of Big Air, is a documentary by Jeff Tremaine (Jackass) about Oklahoma native and BMX innovator Mat Hoffman. I can’t say that I’m much of a BMX fan, but one of the producers on the film is Spike Jonze (Where The Wild Things Are) and that’s enough for me to get excited about it. And I don’t know how many documentaries I’ve seen where I went in not really caring for the subject matter only to be really drawn in to it over the course of the film. Both Hoffman and Jonze will be in attendance tonight, along with actress Rinko Kikuchi (Babel, The Brothers Bloom). And roller girls! Looks to be an exciting kick-off!
